To start with, many thanks to Naomi Smoot and The Journal (Martinsburg, WV) for the article they published today. We were on the front page of their paper! And yes, that is darling pretty Rosey, from her second show experience!
After getting my hands on several copies, it was time for some work with the horses at home. The blog has been agonizingly devoid of photos lately, so I have some new ones.
Basically, Stephen and Afton got tortured today with a device known as the “Pessoa Rig”- a lunging contraption that seems to be very helpful with these guys. That’s little skinny Stephen, right there- except not quite as skinny- he’s putting on some weight!
Eventually, he got the hang of the rig and started travelling a little straighter, and figuring out the part with the bit contact. Of course, one of those really good moments had to happen right in front of the giant poo pile. They always do the prettiest stuff in the worst possible location, as far as photos go.
After lunging for a little while in both directions, we began setting up for a little free jumping. Stephen may be joining the gymnastic lesson tomorrow (at least, the first few rounds of it), so we thought it might be a good idea to see what he does when faced with an actual obstacle.
As it turns out, he mostly figured it out- the trot poles were no problem, and he went over the crossrail the first time. He also went over the vertical pretty well, but he did get a little confused when faced with an oxer. Which is OK, it’s a totally new thing, so we understand.
So, enjoy a few photos of Mr. Stephen, who probably doesn’t get enough attention here. 🙂
Phew. I have a bunch of Afton photos as well, but those will wait till tomorrow *grin*
